Together for Peace 2010
Scouting4Peace Foundation would like to thank all participants of Together for Peace 2010 for a wonderful 6 days in Egypt.
On Saturday we officially began the camp with an opening ceremony featuring speeches, music, and Egyptian dancing. Campers also participated in workshops, where they learned about scouting crafts, Egyptian art, and the Arabic language. The day closed with a Christmas party and a visit from Santa Claus.

On Sunday, campers traveled to Alexandrian together to visit sites and see the Mediterranean Ocean. First, we explored the Citadel of Qaitbay overlooking the harbor of Alexandria. Next, we visited the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina, built in 2002 to revive the spirit of learning fostered by the ancient Library of Alexandria.

On Monday, we visited the desert in the southern Egyptian province of Fayyoum. We hiked through Wadi al Hitan, or the Valley of the Whales, where we saw the remains of prehistoric whales. Next, we visited the desert of Wadi al Rayan. Through a partnership with Clean Up the World Foundation, we helped clean the site, which is listed as a Protected Area.

Tuesday began with a visit to the famous Pyramids of Giza. Campers rode on camels and climbed into the pyramid of the pharaoh Menkaure. After the pyramids, we visited the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, which houses one of the largest collections of ancient artifacts in the world. At night, campers explored the Khan al Khalili Bazaar.

The camp officially closed on Wednesday. Campers began the day with parasailing in the Egyptian desert, and then shared their cultures with one another at International Day. We ate traditional foods and listened to music from each country, as well as swapped badges and kerchiefs. The day closed with a campfire circle, where we sang songs, played games, and said goodbye to one another.

Thank you again to all participants. We hope you had safe journeys home, and that you each took back more than just photos and souvenirs—friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Hope to see you in Egypt again soon! http://www.scouting4peace.org/forum/topics/together-for-peace-2010
